It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power.

Name Givings
There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One is roots; the other, wings.

~ Hodding Carter

Bestowing a name is a wonderous thing.

We all understand how important our names are and we attach much meaning from the names we give those we love, thus the ceremony that formally gives a child their name is an opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge both the child and the name.

  • What is the origen of the name?
  • Is it special for some reason?
  • Are there connections to special people?
  • Is it linked to family heritage?

A Name Giving is also a time to appoint godparents/ guardians / mentors

  • who would you choose to support your child as a trusted friend; someone to come to other than Mum or Dad?
  • would you expect the guardians to take over parenting, should anything happen to you?

A Name Giving offers a chance to tell the story of how your child came into being and express gratitude for their arrival.

The telling of this story can become a tradition at each birthday and such traditions bring families closer as they share and reminisce.

Please contact me to discuss a Name Giving ceremony for your child.
