Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.

~Helen Keller

There are times and events in our lives that are important and valuable. At these times we often feel the desire to say something special, or mark the occasion to acknowledge the important thing that is happening in our lives. A ceremony is what we call our response to that desire...

Q & A:

What does a ceremony offer you?

Ceremony provides us with a framework that allows to step outside of regular human interactions. It creates a safe place where we can express things that we would normally find difficult to say or even a bit embarrassing because it holds so much emotion.

A ceremony is a pause in the busyness of our day-to-day lives where we can honour our life experiences; especially our transitions eg from single to couple aka weddings, from child to adult aka rites of passage, from life to death aka requiem.

In the space and time of a ceremony we can celebrate a milestone, bring closure or release, seek healing, give blessing and thanks, find peace, joy and connect with whatever we hold as sacred.

A ceremony that is rich, deep and powerful creates an indelible memory to cherish. It is a beautiful and sometimes transformational experience for all present. It can build bridges and draw the bonds of community closer. The community of your immediate family or your extended family and friends, your workplace or your group.

What is the role of the celebrant?

Broadly speaking, my role as a celebrant involves

  • assisting you to construct a unique ceremony that meets your special situation & needs by:
    • carefully listening to what you want
    • making suggestions that could interest you and are helpful
    • providing you with detailed information about your ceremony components
    • offering links to other services and products that may be of interest to you
    • researching special requirements
    • writing original passages if required
    • arranging all the components of the ceremony so that they flow smoothly and link together
    • showing you tips and tricks that will help mean your actions on the day are graceful and easy, AND support your photographer to take great shots
    • planning the ceremony layout for the maximum visual effect
    • pointing out any potential issues or challenges your ceremony or venue may pose, and then offering possible solutions
  • delivering the ceremony you want on the day
  • attending to all the legal requirements

For more specific information please read my fee schedule.

What special stuff can I offer you?

I specialise in Medieval, Celtic & Pagan ceremonies. This means that I can offer you a ceremony with all those rich traditions or a modern interpretation. Most of my ceremonies include a hand-fasting, which is an ancient and beautiful act.

My client access pages will be full of ideas and excellent links to assist you to find just the right drinking horn or chalice, corset or snood. I have links to farriers and forges, horses for hire and period music and all sorts of amazing stuff to save you precious time. In the mean time, please ask me for help with anything you would like and don't know where to look.

My pledge to you:

Whatever style of ceremony you are looking for, I will do my upmost to bring it into reality.
To do this I will
  • listen carefully to understand your vision for your ceremony
  • make thoughtful suggestions about alternatives to choose from
  • identify potential issues and offer suggestions for alternatives or work-arounds
  • deliver your ceremony exactly as we have agreed ie I will not go off on tangents, make jokes or give unexpected "sermons".
